Capitals 5 - Lightning 2 Brought to You by the Number...

48

That's how many saves Olie Kolzig made last night, on 50 shots. Anytime your team gives up 40+ shots and comes away with the victory, a team must look to their goaltender. The Capitals were dramatically outplayed in the first, but Kolzig shut down Tampa Bay and the Caps took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room. In the second, they blew the game open, scoring three goals. The third period tested Olaf with 25 shots, but he stopped all but two of them to give the Caps the win.

"He's the backbone of our team," Clark said of Kolzig. "We were outplayed maybe in the first period, but he was here to keep it (close)."

Kolzig has always been the team's backbone. His 91.8% save percentage is one of the highest in his career (his highest was 92% in 97-98) and has been a huge reason for the Caps success this year.

"One of the best performances I've seen in a long time by a goaltender," Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella said. "Kolzig was the difference."

No arguments here.
