Canucks 3-Capitals 2 (SO): Brought to You By the Number...

3

The total number of shots taken by the Caps in the 1st and 3rd periods. Against a team like Vancouver and a goaltender like Luongo, the Caps needed to shoot. They did just that towards the end of the second period. Admittedly, the Caps took 16 shots in the second period, high for the game, and converted on one of their four power plays. But still, the Caps did not jump on Luongo early and they couldn't ride the late momentum of the second into the third.

For the second straight game, Olie was amazing (42 saves on 44 shots) but Luongo allowed 2 goals on 21 shots. And once again, the Caps could not convert on the Shootout. Hanlon made a huge mistake by not practicing the shootout early in the season. Already, the Caps have lost 3 games in the shootout. Worse yet, the Caps have not yet scored in the shootout. They've been blanked every time. The shootout must be better because the Caps could be one of the top teams right now.
