Lightning 6-Capitals 4: Brought to You by the Number...

7

The number of Capitals penalties in the game. Now, seven doesn't seem like a HUGE number (the league average is actually about seven penalties per game), but when you play a team that only goes shorthanded THREE times, you need to watch out. Yes, only one goal was scored by Tampa on the power play (their dysmal power play), and the Caps cashed in for two goals on their power play, but the biggest problem with the Caps was the stupidity of their penalties.

Zubrus's second penalty was stupid, as was Pothier running into the goalie. All three penalties in the second were hooks or trips, the stupidest type of penalty to take. Those penalties prevented the Caps from getting any offensive momentum. And give Tampa credit, they didn't take any penalties from the beginning of the first to midway through the third. That prevented the Caps from getting good offensive chances.
